An Ambulance Garage Turned Into A Modern Home

Homes that were built out of structure that originally had a whole different function are always interesting. Observing the changes that had to be made in order to transform the space into a comfortable living space often make us realize that creativity is the key to most projects and also sometimes give us ideas which we can adapt to our own homes. Today we found this very interesting home which used to be an ambulance garage
Located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, this place, a former ambulance garage was transformed into a lovely home by Doepel Strijkers together with LEX Architects. Situated in the center of the city, the house now benefits from wonderful and very convenient surroundings.

It has a park nearby and, in order to take advantage of this feature, the architects replaced a rear wall with a large glass window. This way a very close relationship is established with the park and the inhabitants can admire it and enjoy its beauty from the comfort of their home.

The house has two levels. The upper floor is a polycarbonate structure with integrated LED lights and it contains the bedrooms. It’s situated directly above the kitchen and living area. On the ground level there’s a very nice sunken seating area with a bright orange color that makes it stand out. The kitchen is small and part of this sunken space, forming an open plan, compact and minimalist.-Via
